Founder and President
Born and raised in Cleveland, Joan grew up in a warm and embracing family that loved to cook and entertain. Early on she developed a passion for hospitality. Joan is graduate of the University of Denver Hotel and Restaurant Management School, with an MBA from Cleveland State University, Joan's career spans several large and respected food and hospitality corporations including: Hyatt Hotels, Kraft Foods, CPC Foods and Diamond Crystal Foods. In 1997, though, Joan left corporate life to create her own business.
As a business owner, Joan is deeply proud of the top notch staff she has assembled and nurtured. Joan is also deeply committed to social responsibility and environmental sustainability. In her spare time Joan directs the St Augustine 'Holiday meals for the Homeless and Home-bound," program. She is a board member for the Animal Protective League of Cleveland. On most Sunday mornings Joan walks unadopted dogs at the APL's kennels. Joan is also an avid golfer.Contact Joan
COO/Partner With over 15 years of experience in the restaurant industry, Mike Smith delights our clients with innovative, five star restaurant quality cuisine. A native of Labrador, Canada Mike developed his love for cooking at his mother's side in a family that valued food and celebration. Mike joined Marigold in 2007 after successful stints at several top Cleveland restaurants, and thus brings a fine dining sensibility to all of our events. Mike has a true passion for food and service, an eye for visual excitement , and a tremendous attention to detail. He takes great pride in his ability to lead a talented staff of cooks and bakers producing world class cuisine for events of all sizes. Mike is in constant contact with vendors, growers and artisanal food producers to stay on top of new food trends and local offerings. Sales Consultant Gitta is a lifelong foodie. As a child, she fondly recalls working in her family’s large vegetable garden and preserving its bounty. After putting herself through college by working in area restaurants, Gitta fell in love with the hospitality industry. With over 25 years experience in restaurants and catering, Gitta offers our clients a wealth of experience in event planning and logistics, creative menu design, and stylistic food presentation. In her free time, Gitta remains a passionate gardener and enjoys tracking the latest culinary trends as well as Cleveland’s amazing restaurant scene. Contact Gitta
Marti, our newest event manager, built her esteemed 22 year career in catering at Elan Catering (our friendly competitor). In 2012, when Elan closed their doors, it was our great pleasure to welcome Marti to Marigold. A seasoned and highly respected hospitality professional, Marti brings a wealth of skill and experience to each event she plans. Marti enjoys helping her clients to design unique menus and has a knack for creating beautiful and exciting food and room presentation designs. Director of Events at The Ballroom at Park Lane
Melissa jokes that event planning found her. As an undergraduate at Kent State University, Melissa was employed in the Student Center’s Event Office and fell in love with coordinating and producing functions. She honed her skills with Executive Caterers and at Jacob’s (now Progressive) Field, and eventually found her way to Marigold Catering in 2009. Melissa’s passion is wedding planning. She is warm and welcoming, confident and creative. No wonder couples love working with her. “I love helping couples to turn their dreams into reality,” she says. “It’s so rewarding when the host, or one of the guests, seeks me out to tell me that the event was amazing. Katie earned her degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Findlay. After graduation she launched her career as a banquet professional, serving numerous weddings, Mitzvahs, corporate meetings and private dining functions both large and small. Since joining Marigold, Katie has earned a reputation for carefully planning and managing multiple daily events and says the best part of her job is that no two days are ever the same. She’s an easy-going event planner who keeps her cool when the unexpected happens and is happiest when delivering exceptional service, leaving smiles on her clients’ faces. Director of Sales Vicki’s mantra is personalization, planning each and every event as if it were her own. She strives to get to know clients and understand what they truly want to achieve whether the perfect party theme, menu or presentation style. Prior to joining Marigold, Vicki was an event manager at Gavi’s where she learned to execute gatherings of all sizes and budget levels. As a highly-regarded and award-winning event specialist, Tom brings over 25 years of experience to Marigold Catering. He’s worked for some of the biggest names in the industry, including Paramount Pictures, and locally, The Great Lakes Science Center. A career highlight includes working an event commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation on the U.S.S. Enterprise. A social butterfly by nature, Tom demonstrated his love of working with people and event planning when he helped launch DesignDawgs.net, a blog dedicated to showcasing exceptional events. When he’s not working on the next great affair at MOCA, Tom loves hosting dinner parties for friends and family.Contact Tom
Marie is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute and received a degree from the Le Cordon Bleu Program in Hospitality Restaurant Management. She is an experienced Marigold event planner and loves creating memorable occasions for clients. From planning menus to managing events both on-site and off-site, Marie savors the process from beginning to end. She loves to cook and draws inspiration from watching numerous cooking shows and enjoys trying out fun menu ideas on family and friends.Contact Marie

We have a strong commitment to philanthropy and social causes and through our Marigold Outreach Program we seek to strengthen the well being of our community and the environment. Our "pop-up" Renegade Lunch events raise thousands of dollars for local nonprofit service organizations.
